I have come up with something simple that works:

=C2=A0=C2=A0=C2=A0 ("X" "ChangeLog = README" entry (file+datetree "./00_README.org") "* %? \= n =C2=A0 %U \n %f" :prepend t)

It looks = like it will grow quickly into a long file, with four lines for each entry.= =C2=A0 For now, it's exactly what I needed.=C2=A0 Proof of my instinct = that 95% of the time, when I reach out for help, I almost immediately find = a solution on my own.

I apology for wasted space a= nd time.

Many times I have envisioned = having an org-mode function that works similarly to ChangeLog, to save note= s as something like a 00_README.org file in-place, in any directory in whic= h I am working.=C2=A0=C2=A0 Maybe my imagination has just escaped me, and s= omething either already exists or is so trivial as to have escaped my notic= e.=C2=A0

I almost laughed when I saw a Change= Log exists for the latest org release, but then thought that ChangeLog is s= o perfect and ubiquitous as it should not be replaced.=C2=A0

However, for my=C2=A0 plethora of little=20 projects, scattered all over my home directory tree, it would be excellent = to have a capture template to do this sort of thing, and store to any exist= ing such file in the current directory, and be picked up readily by some si= mple keystroke.=C2=A0=C2=A0 As an example, I might be working=20 on a graph of today's tides, in a new folder, and work=20 away, and when all is said and done, make a note and add it to the 00_READM= E.org file.=C2=A0 These would be convenient to find without digging through= a lot of cruft=C2=A0 (and I have a=20 lot of cruft).

It seems ChangeLog may sometimes save to a directory a the head of a tree of = directories, though I'm not sure.=C2=A0 Perhaps an option would enable this to be done for= a limited number of levels.

Certainly=C2=A0 = something like this must have been implemented.=C2=A0 I think the main=20 trick might be to use the current directory, and use many files with the sa= me filename scattered around all over the place.=C2=A0

I turn to the list out of a sense that I have already wasted enou= gh time on trying to search for something of this nature.

Thank you,
